Goodbye

A month ago, I visited Iceland; something I can recommend to anyone who loves drop dead gorgeous nature, funny yet down-to-earth people and crazy food. The snow had just started melting, making the nature outside of Reykjavik a stunning pallet of greens and whites. Luckily, there was amazing weather that weekend, so I was able to make the most of those few days
One thing I really loved about Iceland is its folklore. Supernatural beings are (still) a part of life and come in all shapes and sizes. The myths are fascinating and I loved how it portrait the lives of those in that time when everything was so much more complicated and the winters ever so harsh.
One of the myths mentioned a detail which really struck me: back in the days, it wasn't uncommon for Icelandic women to 'expose' their babies, which basicly means they left them out in the cold to die. The image has been stuck in my head since. It must've been difficult to do, yet somehow this too portraits the sheer power and might of Icelandic nature.

I got around to colouring this one pretty fast... but it's been more than a year since I used Photoshop, so I'm really rusty...
Not sure about the colour palet, but at least it has a background? That one took me just as long as the rest of the drawing combined... Talk about sad! Still, I'm kinda happy that I got around to drawing something and that it still look semi-decent. Really wanted to do this piece justice and I hope I did
